: What is your first musical memory ?
Doing
a silly dance with the neighbourhood girls on the driveway of our
next door neighbours. or also - trying to remember the guitar chords
to 'monkey gone to heaven' at my first live show at my school's
free stage happening. supporting a very bad but hugely popular belgian
rock band when i was fifteen and trying to get my 10 watt amp miked
up for the PA.
Which
artist or song has "affected" your childhood ?
I
started listening to the smiths when i was 14. does that still count
as childhood? i'm still listening by the way.
Did
you think of working in music ? What did you really want to
become later ?
I
wanted to do something exciting whatever that would be. what i'm
doing now is sometimes exciting, sometimes not (as in sitting on
the train for ten hours on my way to play live in switzerland).
Are
there any disturbing or nice sounds that have "affected" your childhood ?
Listening
to hüsker dü's zen arcade blew my mind. seeing bob mould play live
and acoustic proved that you don't need to be loud to rock. seeing
dinosaur jr. go on stage right after him at the same show proved
that it can help to be loud.
Did
your parents give you a musical education ?
My
parents sent me to music school when i was sixyears old. i played
the clarinet for ten years.
Can
you tell us about a musical memory of your childhood (a concert,
a show..) ?
Okay, i will limit this to teenage years. i got aconcert ticket
to see the pogues for my fourteenth birthday. my best friend's dad
drove us to the other side of belgium to go see them play in this
big 3000 people venue. his dad spent the whole time sitting in a
bar drinking coffee until the concert was finished. i pogo'd so
hard i was full of bruises and cuts.
