JON from AARTIKA

Vivaldi Four Seasons, which for some reason I remember my parents playing all the time after I was born. I think it was important to me because it was a musical work that made sense even as early as 1 or 2 years old. Music isreally an easy concept for children to grasp, and the idea that this work was blatantly connected to a tangible phenomenon (the changing of the seasons) helped me see the connection between musical sound and the thoughts/feelings/actions it was trying to convey. The same went for Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev, and later on in elementary school, I had the same experience listening to Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens. I remember it being very exciting to be able to identify sound this way

First album I remember listening to on my own was "Slippery When Wet" by Bon Jovi. I thought it was cool that we both spelled our first names the same way, and we were both from New Jersey. First album I bought was "Open Up and Say "Ahhh" by Poison, followed by "Appetite for Destruction"; by Guns N' Roses. It was that kind of stuff that impacted me during early adolescence, and then I discovered Danzig and that blew the doors off everything 'd known previously.

Pensiez-vous travailler dans la musique ? Que souhaitiez-vous devenir plus tard ?
When I was a kid I wanted to be an archaeologist. Then a baseball player. But from 8 years old on, all I ever wanted to be was a heavy metal guitar god, even in the midst of my classical guitar studies from age 10-17. Somewhere I got sidetracked and discovered ambient music. Then I got really sidetracked and discovered country music. I recently graduated from NYU with a degree in Music Technology. I guess I still haven' made up my mind as to what I want to be.

I grew up on a beach in New Jersey, and in the winter the place was completely desolate. Just ocean sounds and sea gulls.

. no.

Seeing Paula and Carole (from Paula and Carole's Magic Garden) perform at the Bergen Mall. To this day it's the most drugged out, psych-folk, hippy album I own

Votre Top 5 de l’enfance

There's a theme running through here, isn't there? Are you sure you're not really writing this for "Parent's Drone Weekly"; or something? I think I may be misinterpreting 'childhood" because it makes me think of being 5 years old, which may not be what you're asking for. But I'd rather talk about that than adolescence.

Jon's Top 5 from age 5:

1) Fat crayons

2) Oatmeal cookies

3) Drawing on the wall

4) Dinosaurs

5) The New York Yankees
